Mountain List
16 peaks
Every mountain in Japan that tops 3,000 m. Mt. Fuji (3,776 m) leads the list, followed by Kita-dake (3,193 m), Oku-Hotaka (3,190 m), Aino-dake (3,190 m), Yari (3,180 m), Warusawa, Akaishi, Karasawa-dake, Kita-Hotaka and others — about 20 peaks in all.
Apart from Fuji and Ontake, every 3,000 m summit is concentrated in the Hida (Northern Alps) and Akaishi (Southern Alps) ranges. Expect the most authentically alpine experience available in Japan: ridges above the treeline, rock, snowfields, ptarmigans and flower meadows — best attempted in the snow-free window from July to September.
