Mountains for hikers who already have some experience — longer day-trips, single-night hut traverses, and the main summits of Yatsugatake, Tanzawa, Oku-Chichibu and the Jōshin'etsu range.

Map reading, weather judgement and basic alpine gear are assumed. Many routes involve over 1,000 m of elevation gain and around 8 hours of moving time. This is the heartland of a typical Hyakumeizan project, and the right step up for hikers moving from day-trips toward serious traverses.
